Courtenay grew up in Johnson, Vt. She earned her BS in Biological Science from the University of Vermont in 2012. As a scholar at UVM, Courtenay volunteered with UVM Rescue, which is a state licensed Advanced Life Support ambulance, staffed and operated by UVM college students 24 hours a day, 365 days a yr.
