While states can mitigate some anticipated assaults on reproductive health and rights by the Trump-Pence administration abetted by Congress, no such useful resource exists to ameliorate close to-sure assaults on worldwide household planning.
We can anticipate a replay of the Reagan-Bush eras, with drastic funding cuts, reimposition of the global gag rule, which banned funding to oversees organizations that provided abortion recommendation or providers, and a prohibition of assist to the United Nations Population Fund — the world’s largest multilateral supplier of household planning.
Past expertise demonstrated that such actions will curtail entry to contraception and contribute to will increase in toddler and maternal mortality in most of the poorest locations on earth. They may even end in extra abortions, most of them unsafe.
President-elect Donald Trump’s unfocused Twitterization of complicated issues, coupled with the extremism of Vice President-elect Mike Pence, might outcome within the complete abdication of the United States’ main position in international women’s health and rights — abandoning hundreds of thousands of weak women and households. Who’s going to look out for them?
