Solidarity group sees threats to women’s health

We are the Deerfield chapter of Solidarity Sundays, a nationwide advocacy group working for peace, justice, and fairness. We are additionally native therapists, educators, and moms — and as such, we’re writing to categorical our grave considerations about women’s health and reproductive rights on this nation, particularly within the wake of the U.S. House vote on the American Health Care Act proposed by Speaker Paul Ryan and supported by President Donald Trump. According to that invoice, simply being a lady is a pre-existing situation — most of the “illnesses” that would end in denial of protection are gender-specific, together with postpartum melancholy, C-sections, and menstrual irregularities.

The AHCA would permit states to opt-out of requiring that insurance policy present “essential care benefits,” similar to contraception. Insurance plans that cowl abortion would diminish as a result of they might lose federal tax dollars, and pregnant women would possible have to pay a lot larger premiums for maternity care. We ought to all be involved concerning the influence these proposed modifications would have on our neighbors, buddies, and family members right here in Franklin County, because the AHCA would disproportionately have an effect on low-income women.

The invoice now heads to the Senate. We want Senators Elizabeth Warren and Ed Markey to help a health care plan that may shield the health of all women — not put us at an obstacle due to the our bodies we’ve. Thank you.
