Passavant Area Hospital opened on Tuesday on the hospital’s campus a brand new center devoted to the health wants of women.
The center will present obstetric and gynecologic care, together with providers for high-risk pregnancies.
Robert Ellison, director of enterprise improvement and group engagement at Passavant, stated the center will present providers that have been previously restricted by area constraints.
“Our old location in the east wing of the hospital had a limited number of exam rooms and the space didn’t allow us to meet the demand for the volume of patients needing access in our services area,” Ellison stated. “Wait times for seeing new patients were too long. Our new, modern space is larger and, along with our new providers, will allow our team to see more patients and deliver care to them in a more timely manner.”
Passavant CEO Harry Schmidt stated the women’s center will permit extra individuals to remain nearer to house to obtain providers, as an alternative of going elsewhere, reminiscent of Springfield, for care.
“Passavant Area Hospital serves rural communities in which women tend to have restricted access to specialized health care compared to women living in more urban communities,” Schmidt stated. “We are happy our new Women’s Health Center will provide women increased access to the basic and specialized care not previously available to them.”
The expanded providers, together with the expanded area, are each pluses of the center, Ellison stated.
“The new Passavant Women’s Health Center and the additional physicians will allow us to serve more patients, closer to home, keeping them from having to travel long distances for care,” he stated. “Our pregnant patients will have access to routine prenatal care and be able to deliver their babies right here in Jacksonville.”
The center at 610 N. Westgate Ave. may have three physicians and a nurse practitioner on employees.
Ellison stated extra employees might be added if there’s extra demand for providers.
The center can be open to the general public from 5:30 to six:30 p.m. Feb. 1. Its physicians additionally might be out there for questions.
