LUNAFEST film fest to bring light to women’s issues

LEWISTON — LUNAFEST, an annual fundraising film pageant devoted to selling consciousness about women’s issues, highlighting women filmmakers, and bringing women collectively of their communities, will probably be proven at 7 p.m. Wednesday, May 17, at The Public Theater, 31 Maple St.

The pageant highlights women as leaders in society, illustrated by means of 9 brief movies by women filmmakers. The movies vary from animation to fictional drama, and canopy subjects resembling women’s health, motherhood, physique picture, ageing, cultural variety and breaking obstacles.

Proceeds will profit the collaborating businesses of LA Women Rising with 15 % returned to LUNAFEST for Breast Cancer Prevention Partners. In addition to ticket gross sales, there shall be a 50/50 raffle. All sponsoring businesses shall be current with info.

LA Women Rising is a collaborative effort between The Center for Wisdom’s Women, Safe Voices, Sexual Assault Prevention and Response Services, and the YWCA of Central Maine.

The businesses have partnered to increase consciousness about violence towards women. Their efforts have two objectives: Build an ongoing community of help and advocacy across the situation of violence towards women and women, and lead individuals to motion steps that may promote long-term change.
