Dunham speaks out.
The 2017 Met Gala led to a medical emergency for Lena Dunham, who was rushed from the occasion to hospital. Now the Girls actress has spoken about what occurred and why she ended up needing emergency medical care.
“Thank you for all the love and concern that’s been pouring in since Tuesday,” Dunham started in an Instagram selfie from her hospital mattress, the place her Elizabeth Kenendy Met Gala robe is seen in the background.
“Although I’m much healthier than I was a year ago, complications arose from my most recent endometriosis surgery.”
Of course, the star has been extremely public about her battle with endometriosis since she first introduced she had suffered from an ovarian cyst rupture again in March 2016, inflicting her to cancel a Girls press tour. Endometriosis is a continual situation that impacts one in ten women’s reproductive health. Since saying she suffers from the situation in 2016, she has been out and in of hospital for numerous operations and exams, and it appears the Met Gala night time was sadly one other relapse for the actress.
Dunham took up the alternative to converse candidly about women’s reproductive healthcare in America, including to her publish: “When the healthcare of so many American women, especially our trans sisters, is at-risk – or already nonexistent – I am lucky to be in the position to seek help when I’m in pain.”
“To those in that privileged spot – never forget that we are blessed and can pay it forward by supporting Planned Parenthood and LGBTQ clinics like Callen-Lorde… I also want to remind all the women suffering from chronic illness that we aren’t weak – quite the opposite, actually. We do our jobs with skill even when we’re struggling. We care families even when we can hardly care for ourselves. We serve major face on a red carpet when we feel like lying face down would be more appropriate.”
Dunham went on to say she’s pleased with the footage of her on the Met Gala pink carpet, writing: “Not just because I felt beautiful, surrounded by art and magic, hugging my best friend tightly, but because they’re evidence that women contain steely multitudes.”
Ironically, Dunham’s phrases come as House Republicans have taken a step in the direction of slashing funding for Planned Parenthood, the organisation in America that gives essential reproductive healthcare in the US and globally. The House has in a single day voted to repeal the Affordable Health Care Act, which can defund Planned Parenthood.
The heath invoice nonetheless has to move in the senate and if Dunham’s phrases in her Instagram submit are something to reside by, the battle isn’t over but.
“Everyone who’s anyone knows that if you can battle chronic illness there’s nothing you can’t take on.”
