BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) – A New Orleans state lawmaker has created a nonprofit group to draw consideration to women’s issues within the Louisiana Legislature.
Democratic Rep. Helena Moreno says the Ignite Advocacy Network will alert members about coverage issues up for debate and encourage them to attend hearings and write letters to newspapers about them.
The nonprofit will focus on employment, health, schooling and violence prevention issues involving women. Louisiana ranks poorly amongst states for women’s health and earnings, amongst different areas.
The Ignite Advocacy Network is an outcropping of Moreno’s #ItsNoJoke social media marketing campaign launched in May. The marketing campaign got here after a lawmaker objecting to a invoice requiring strippers to be a minimum of 21 years previous, an anti-human trafficking measure, recommended strippers must be lower than 160 kilos and no older than 28.
