Have you ever felt embarrassed or ashamed concerning the easy (and largely unavoidable) reality that you simply get a period? You’re not alone. Period shaming is one thing that always appears ingrained in our tradition.
Case in level: Women’s Health‘s website director Robin Hilmantel clearly remembers studying about durations in her first sex-ed class. “We watched this video: a woman, she’s on the varsity’s steps and journeys. Tampons fly out of her bag and her crush picks them up, and it was framed within the video as this very embarrassing second,” Hilmantel says. “So I think from a very early age, women and girls are taught that periods are something that’s embarrassing.”
