Monday was an enormous day for Hoda Kotb – it was her first day again at work after maternity depart, a serious (and sometimes tough) occasion within the lifetime of any new mother. The TODAY present anchor adopted her daughter Haley Joy in February after preserving the adoption course of beneath wraps for months. During her first day again on the job, Kotb opened up about what the primary few months of motherhood have been like for her – and her first-time mother struggles are relatable AF.
Kotb revealed on SiriusXM’s TODAY Show Radio that, earlier than she took house her child woman, the adoption company gave her a fast tutorial on how to be a parent. Part of the tutorial included invaluable fundamentals (like the fragile balancing act of holding a child and consuming a sandwich directly), and the less-glamorous elements of parenting, like altering a diaper (although, even then, Kotb stated she had “never been happier”). But afterwards, “I was literally YouTubing how to change a diaper, how to give a bath, how to burp. How do you know? I didn’t know,” Kotb admitted.
Clearly, the 52-year-old TV character, who just lately shared the truth that her battle with most cancers left her unable to conceive, figured all of it out. She’s utterly in love together with her new little woman, and their bond was instantaneous. “If anything is a perfect fit, this is. […] Nothing felt more right than her in my arms,” she stated. “I must have had a tiny hole in my heart that Haley filled perfectly.”
Like most new mother and father heading again to work after spending virtually all of their time with their new child, the transition wasn’t easy. “I’ve been a mess,” the anchor said throughout her first phase again on-air. “I’m scared to be sitting here. I’m a little afraid that I might explode into tears.” And tear up she did. Understandably.
Despite being unhappy about leaving her daughter at residence, she was glad to be again at TODAY. “There’s something about when you look into the eyes of people who are just happy for you that makes me explode,” she stated. “I feel so blessed to be able to have this great family and a little girl at home waiting for me.” That household consists of her longtime boyfriend, Joel Schiffman, who will raise baby Haley alongside Kotb and be referred to as “Dad” by her.
