MEDFORD — Michael Moore went 2-for-Three with three runs in the opener and Three-for-Four with an RBI and two runs to steer the Eugene Challengers to a sweep of the Medford Mustangs in an American Legion Area Four doubleheader on Sunday.
The Challengers (5-Three, Four-Zero Area Four) gained the opener 15-11 and took the second recreation 10-7.
Heath Boyles went Three-for-Four with a double, triple, seven RBIs and three runs for the Challengers in the opener. Cole Carder was Four-for-5 with a triple for Medford.
In the second recreation, Sam Olsson went Three-for-Four for the Challengers, and Zach Diehl is 2-for-5 with a double and Dylan Dudley was Three-for-Four with an RBI.
Titans draw in Calgary
CALGARY, Alberta — Nick Moon scored in the 51st minute to provide Lane United the lead, however the Reds gave up the equalizer 9 minutes later in a 1-1 draw towards Calgary Foothills FC in a PDL soccer recreation on Sunday.
Moon scored off a feed from Jaime Miralles to provide the Reds (5-2-Four, 2-2-Four PDL) a 1-Zero lead. Kyle Jones scored on a penalty kick in the 60th minute for Calgary.
Cheserek earns award
BEAVERTON — Oregon monitor and area star Edward Cheserek was named the Bill Hayward Amateur Athlete of the Year on the Oregon Sports Awards on Sunday on the Nike Campus.
Oregon State women’s basketball participant Sydney Wiese was named the feminine athlete of the yr, and Olympic gold medalists Ashton Eaton and Ryan Crouser have been named the skilled athletes of the yr.
Oregon State baseball coach Pat Casey was named Slats Gill Sportsperson of the yr, beating out OSU women’s basketball coach Scott Rueck and Oregon males’s basketball coach Dana Altman.
Oregon’s women’s monitor and cross nation, males’s golf and males’s basketball groups shared the group of the yr award with Corban softball.
Other native athletes to win awards included Harrisburg’s Hunter Knox because the Class 4A-1A boys athlete of the yr and Marist’s Lauren Burke, who was the softball participant of the yr.
